Function
The English Transition Success Coach is responsible for providing tutoring in specific subject areas that aid student development. This position will tutor students on all writing and English related work. This position will also be responsible for the development of an English and Writing Center and an Online Writing Lab both housed within the ACE.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to the Director of Student Retention and Support Services who reports to the Vice President of Student Services, who report to the President of the College. Also reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences who reports to the provost who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications for the Position
Required
- Bachelors degree in English
- Excellent organizational and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a team member.
- Excellent customer service, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills
- A strong sense of integrity and acceptance of diversity
- Strong technology skills
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission.
Preferred
- MA in English or at least 18 hours of graduate coursework
- Special consideration given to those with a background in developmental education.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard
- Experience with faculty/staff training
- Previous community college experience
- Experience with data collection and assessment
Essential Functions
- Develop and oversee English and Writing Center and Online Writing Lab.
- Provide 9 12 credit hours of developmental English instruction per semester.
- Individualized tutoring of English students
- Establish and Coordinate learning communities and group study sessions as needed.
- Supervise and train adjunct, peer, and paraprofessional English tutors.
- Assist with coordinating tutoring needs by working closely with ACE staff, English faculty, coaches, and other organizations.
- Provide instruction and tutoring at education center locations as needed.
- Provide instruction and tutoring in a variety of modes as needed to meet the needs of the student populations served.
- Provide data related to and keep accurate records of all students receiving English/writing coaching.
Other Functions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will assist with supervision of ACE student workers, professional tutors, and online peer tutors.
Supervisory Controls
Required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation with the Director of Student Retention & Support Services, English Department Chair, and Dean of Arts & Sciences as needed.

Personal Relationships
Position will have daily contact with students and other college employees and will have frequent contact with community and external agencies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Travel within the college district as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary for professional development and in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
